OPTIMIST UiTM : WORLD SIGHT DAY 2015

Greetings and assalamualaikum!

This year, World Sight Day comes back with the call of action, "Eye Care For All"! For the readers out there, World Sight Day is basically an important advocacy and communications green light for the eye health community. This is the day where eye health professionals like Ophthalmologist and Optometrist are given the golden chance to engage themselves with those people who rarely go for eye check-ups and explain to them why eye health needs everybody's attention.

As to why "Eye Care for All" is chosen as the call of action for World Sight Day 2015 is because The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) urges us to focus on everybody who needs eye care services regardless their races, creeds and backgrounds. As a matter of fact, there are thousands of less unfortunate people out there who actually need eye care especially the vulnerable ones like the orphans.

Now, ask yourself, "What can we do to bring eye care to them all?". As this day is an opportunity for Optometry students and staff to spread awareness about eye care, we have come out with several activities that will catch attention from public.

The World Sight Day event conducted by UiTM Optometry Student Association (OPTIMIST) event is held at the Foyer of FSK 6, UiTM Puncak Alam in order to support the cause to shift and refocus public's attention on the global issue of the avoidable blindness and visual impairment.

One of the highlight activities of our World Sight Day 2015 event is #EyeCareforAll Photography Competition! This photography competition is started by the IABP themselves. We challenge amateur and professional photographers among UiTM students to join us in highlighting the impact of eye health in people's lives, by taking part in this WSD 2015 Photography Competition with theme, 'Eye Care for All'. The participants are required to send their photos together with hashtags, #EyeCareforAll and #WSDUiTM to promote this year's theme.
